Marriage Commissioner - Get Married YEG

Are you looking for a dang good officiant who takes the time to get to know you and puts the entire room at ease (including yourselves!)? Look no further than Dave Sawchuk.

Intimate Wedding at the Muttart Conservatory, Edmonton, Alberta.

Q & A

  1. Q: What is a marriage commissioner?

A: Someone who performs civil (non-religious) marriages for or near their communities.

2. Q: Do I need a marriage commissioner/officiant?

A: Yes! In order to be legally recognized in the eyes of the Province of Alberta.

3. Q: Do I have to hire a marriage commissioner?

A: No way! A friend or family member can become a temporary (one-time) officiant once approved by Vital Statistics Canada.

4. Q: Is having a marriage commissioner beneficial?

A: Yes, of course! It takes the guesswork out and gives an absolute to your wedding day and can help ease the chaos of the day as well as bring up morale.

Note: Marriage commissioners (appointed for Alberta) are allowed to charge a fee for performing services, however, if a ie. friend or family member is performing a service-they are not legally permitted to do so.

Dave is a personal favourite of ours over here at Peak and Prairie Photography! We’ve worked together a few times and a few more times to come in the near future-we always recommend him because he’s just got an energy that is unmatched!

Why? Well, you see, Dave is as much of a character as he is a professional-it’s truly the perfect balance.

He makes sure that he focuses on our couples throughout his time, while engaging their guests. He makes sure that distractions like cell phones are put away so that their guests are able to be in the moment with them and it’s pretty awesome. He is great at breaking the ice and getting the crowd fired up and he goes beyond and above for his couples-sometimes he rides in limos with us while we hunt for missing marriage certificates (not naming any names)-it’s fun!

We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.
— Winston Churchill

You can really tell that Dave loves what he does. He helps put stressed brides and nervous grooms at ease by cracking jokes, reassuring them (he truly cares) and reminding them how much they love one another, what more could you ask for?
