An Intimate Backyard Wedding, Backing onto Cochrane Ranch, Cochrane.

After Katelyn & Murray’s engagement session in Sylvan Lake, we were sure we were in for a beautiful wedding, between two fantastic individuals who clearly had such a strong and loving relationship. Their big day did not disappoint!. It was an outpouring of love and emotion between each other and close friends and family.

It was another weekend with smoke in the air, usually kind of a bonus from a photography point of view- it wasn’t to much so as it would affect enjoyment of the day, but it defiantly helps diffuse that hot July sun! There was a downside however, and that was that the view of the Rocky Mountains from the ceremony spot was not happening. It was disappointing to not see those distant peaks on the venue walkthrough, but that was soon replaced by excitement once we had a chance to explore the outstanding Cochrane Ranch which it backed onto. It was actually so nice to explore upon a spot like this and not already be bored of seeing the pictures on social media- it makes your little journey of discovery so much more fulfilling. And after an afternoon of exploring the ranch (and getting soaked in a downpour!) we were so looking forward to documenting the following days festivities!

The first-look was a really emotional one! Murray was so overwhelmed to see Katelyn in her dress for the first time, it really is such a privilege to document these intimate moments for our clients. The moment was made all-the-more special with the parents walking the bride and groom into position.

Cermony-time and K&M exchanged some heartfelt vows in front of their nearest and dearest, overlooking the ravine which is part of Cochrane ranch. This was the house Murray grew-up in, as a native of a different country it always strikes me how special familiarity is, something which it’s hard to appreciate until its not there. When we were doing the walkthrough it passed through my mind that the trails we were walking on planning their first look and ceremony, to another look totally different- they are the trails you ran on as a kid, drank on as a teenager (LOL), you get the picture. What a perfect place, for them, to get married.

K&M had opted not to have traditional wedding parties- rather just invite all their favourite people to their wedding and party. And it really worked! They had most of the wedding as their entourage for bride and groom pictures! They danced, champagne was popped (and somewhat skillfully turned on the guests ha!!), Murray was tossed up in the air and a thoroughly good time was had by all! How stunning is the ‘Grandfather Tree’ btw?!

A huge THANK-YOU Katelyn & Murray for letting us into your inner-circle for the day! It was a perfect day and a an absolute pleasure to get to know you all, wishing you all the best in your new life as husband and wife.
